Packer Fastener: Building a Real-Life Culture of Wellness


When you think nuts & bolts, what do you think of next? I bet you didn’t guess wellness. But that’s a main focus at Packer Fastener, a fast moving, innovative company based out of Green Bay, WI. Competitive by nature, Terry Albrecht, the founder of the company, sets up a unique structure for employees to succeed, fostering and encouraging each employee to be the best. He does this through leveraging 15 core values, which includes health & wellbeing.

“We are focused on having an intentional culture,” said Terry in our recent interview, “One that encourages and makes it possible for everyone in our company to be at his or her best physical and personal health to assure a bright future, both personally and professionally.”



Their headquarters supports this philosophy by offering a 1,600 sq. foot onsite gym, complete with a wingnut inspired fitness logo. Terry also personally engages with each individual employee, shadowing everyone in the company at least once a year. During that time he makes sure to review health goals, supporting and encouraging employees’ journey throughout.

Packer Fastener recently took their wellness to the next level, launching with myInertia in the start of 2016. The program was developed in partnership with their new brokerage, Forsite Benefits.
”Selecting a health insurance company that shared our vision for a proactive vs. reactive approach to healthcare was a key factor in selecting Forsite as our benefits provider,” Terry said, “ Our goal was to engage our population in a healthy lifestyle to reduce the cost of healthcare for both the company and our team.”

For the 2016 program, Employees were offered a $100 reimbursement toward a Garmin or Fitbit fitness tracker of their choice. Tapping into their competitive nature, there’s a trophy up for grabs for the employee who earns the most points throughout the year. They can earn points by participating in annual physicals, monthly fitness challenges or by cranking out some reps at their onsite weight lifting competitions.

When we asked Terry how their new wellness platform has supported Packer Fasteners already health focused culture he stated, “The online wellness platform is a great tool that allows us to engage all of our team members across multiple locations, and continuously reinforces our wellness initiatives. myInertia’s comprehensive program pulls together our desired wellness plans into one easy to use package, resulting in a daily ritual that supports that culture. Since the kick off, there has been continuous office chatter about steps, challenges, and overall wellness. myInertia has proven to be the reinforcement tool we had hoped.”


The program currently has 100% of employees participating, and as a group they are averaging over 8,000 daily steps. Looking towards the future of healthcare & their program, Packer Fastener will leverage myInertia’s points-based tracking system to offer annual premium differentials to those who meet a certain point goal.
